Chris Sutton names manager who sold star to Chelsea with ‘egg on his face’ | G3 Football

Date:

Pep Guardiola’s decision to sell Cole Palmer to Chelsea is being criticized by former Blues forward Chris Sutton. Sutton believes that Guardiola made a rare mistake in letting go of the young England star, and he must now have ‘egg on his face’ after Palmer’s phenomenal start to the season.

Palmer, who had helped the Young Lions win the U21 Euros last summer, was expected to have a breakthrough season with Manchester City. However, he surprised everyone by making a shock deadline day move to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth over £40 million.

Since joining Chelsea, Palmer has been their standout player, scoring eight goals and providing six assists. Despite his efforts, Chelsea has struggled under Mauricio Pochettino.

Sutton believes that Guardiola will regret selling such a promising young talent and has called him ‘nuts’ for letting Palmer go. He expressed his opinion on the It’s All Kicking Off! podcast.

Jamie Carragher also praised Palmer’s performances this season and included him in his Premier League Team of the Season so far. However, Carragher does not believe it was a mistake by City to sell him.

Palmer could be in action on Saturday when Chelsea faces Championship side Preston in the FA Cup third-round.
