Chelsea’s Reece James and Mason Mount to miss rest of season due to double injury blow

Date:

Frank Lampard, the interim manager of Chelsea, has announced that Reece James and Mason Mount are unlikely to play for the remainder of the season. James has been plagued by injuries throughout the season, causing him to miss the World Cup, and will now miss the rest of Chelsea’s campaign. Mount will undergo minor surgery, but Lampard is hopeful that the 24-year-old will be available for the final game of the season against Newcastle United. Chelsea faces Brentford on Wednesday, but even a win would not be enough to climb into the top half of the table. The Blues need to win their remaining seven league fixtures and hope for slip-ups from the clubs above them to have any chance of qualifying for Europe next season. Despite being out of contention for silverware, Lampard is looking forward to seeing how his players measure up in the face of a daunting run-in. He refused to rule out the club’s young players earning game time before the end of the season, stating that if they deserved it, they would get an opportunity with him.
