Chelsea’s abysmal run continues with defeat to Tottenham as pressure piles on Graham Potter with just one win in 2023

Chelsea’s dismal form continued on Sunday afternoon after Tottenham eased to a 2-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Serious questions of Graham Potter will continue to be asked as the Blues carry on plummeting with no sign of improvement.

The 2-0 defeat to Spurs means that Chelsea have just one win in the entirety of 2023 – a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace in January.

And the west London outfit now have just one goal in their last six matches in a 1-1 draw against West Ham with Potter overseeing a measly two wins in 16 matches.

Losing to Tottenham is also set to further damage his relationship with Chelsea fans after Spurs managed their eighth win against them in the entire Premier League era.

It also ended an eight-game streak without winning against Chelsea for Spurs, who had last tasted victory in this fixture in November 2018 with Mauricio Pochettino in charge.

Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane were the goalscorers, the first coming from a crashed in shot that Kepa Arrizabalaga could only flap a weak hand to just seconds after half-time.

Some shoddy defending from a corner allowed Kane to double the lead with 10 minutes to go and effectively end the match – though Chelsea’s goalscoring exploits of late mean Skipp’s opener would have been more than enough.

The Blues have scored a shocking three goals in 11 matches and have not netted more than one in a game since November 2 in a 2-1 win over European minnows Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

No side has scored less than them in the last 12 Premier League matches and leaves the club 10th while they are now closer to the bottom three than they are the top four.

After over £600million spent by Todd Boehly across two transfer windows, it is an abysmal return on his investment so far while the billionaire’s patience must be stretching thin now.

Chelsea play Leeds next at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and the atmosphere could turn very toxic without a win against their northern rivals.

But sacking Potter would burn an even deeper hole in Boehly’s pocket, who forked out a world-record £22m to Brighton for his services.

Binning him off just six months into a five-year contract worth £12m per year would cost an extravagant £50m – so it might be understandable why the trigger has yet to be pulled.
