Chelsea Star Warns of Potential Poor Performance in Carabao Cup Final
Chelsea’s Malo Gusto has recently made headlines after his impressive performance in the team’s draw against Manchester City last week. However, the talented young star is quick to downplay his success and warns that he may not deliver the same level of performance in the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
In the match against Man City, Gusto was tasked with keeping Jeremy Doku quiet, and he succeeded admirably. Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf even described Gusto’s performance as “absolutely fantastic” in the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side. However, Gusto remains grounded and takes any praise he receives with a pinch of salt.
“It’s nice to hear, but I don’t really care about this; I just want to become a better person and a better player,” Gusto humbly stated in an interview with The Athletic. “The game against Doku, people talk about it, but it’s just one game. Maybe this weekend I could be s*** and the game after, I could be better. I just have to stay focused and keep the good things.”
Despite his cautionary words, Gusto acknowledges the importance of his recent performance and the impact it has had on his confidence leading up to the Carabao Cup final. “The last game was complicated, but it was good for me to learn and gain confidence as well,” he revealed. “I have good cardio, good legs. This is my football. When I was younger, I was the same: running every day. It’s helped the team as well. When your teammates see someone run a lot, you want to run a lot with him.”
In addition to discussing his own performance, Gusto also took the opportunity to praise Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino. According to Gusto, Pochettino has been instrumental in waking up the team’s mentality and instilling a desire to win everything. “He helps us a lot. He has tried to show us the desire to win, to keep fighting against every team,” Gusto explained. “He talks to us a lot about tactics and technique. He is a good person as well. He tries to help us a lot, on and off the pitch. He is a good coach for this young team.”
As the Carabao Cup final approaches, Gusto’s words serve as a reminder that football is a game of uncertainty and that even the best players can have off days. However, his dedication to improvement and his admiration for his coach’s guidance give Chelsea fans hope for a strong performance in the final. The talented young star is determined to continue proving himself and showcasing his skills against top-quality opposition.
