Borussia Dortmund Confident of Signing Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen in January Transfer Window

Borussia Dortmund is reportedly confident in their pursuit of Chelsea star Ian Maatsen in the upcoming January transfer window. The German club has expressed interest in signing Maatsen and is currently in negotiations with Chelsea. While it is not yet decided whether the transfer will be a permanent move or a loan deal, Dortmund remains optimistic about completing the deal.

Maatsen, who is 21 years old, came close to leaving Chelsea during the summer transfer window but rejected a £31.5m move to Burnley. Since then, he has struggled to secure a regular spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI and has mostly featured as a substitute in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea is open to selling Maatsen, but Dortmund prefers to initially take him on loan. However, an agreement of some kind is expected to be reached between the two clubs. Maatsen himself is believed to be open to joining Dortmund, who currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga, 15 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking about Maatsen earlier this month, Pochettino acknowledged that the young player had faced difficulties in progressing after impressing during Chelsea’s pre-season campaign. Pochettino emphasized the need to give young players time to relax and adjust to the demands of playing at a top club like Chelsea.

In other news, Chris Sutton has named a manager who has “egg on his face” after selling a star player to Chelsea, while Chelsea is set to rival Manchester United and Liverpool for the signing of an £87m rated Benfica star.
