Nicolas Jackson withdraws from Senegal squad after minor wrist operation

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has withdrawn from the Senegal squad after undergoing a minor wrist operation.

The 22-year-old was spotted wearing a split on his wrist in victories over Brighton and Burnley.

He was included in the Senegal squad for games against Cameroon and South Sudan but has now withdrawn with Rangers striker Abdallah Sima brought into replace him.

The Mirror report Jackson has undergone a minor procedure but is thought he will be available for the visit of Arsenal in Chelsea’s first game back after the international break.

Jackson’s Role at Chelsea

Jackson, who joined the Blues in a £32million deal from Villarreal in the summer, has started six league matches under Mauricio Pochettino this term.

He missed the 2-0 win over Fulham through suspension but was back off the bench to score his third goal for the club in the 4-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday.

The win marked Chelsea’s first back-to-back wins since March with Jackson’s role off the bench key to the victory at Turf Moor.

‘Nicolas Jackson is energetic, he gets about, helps the team defensively and he makes good runs. Grateful that he took his chance,’ his teammate Raheem Sterling told Match of the Day.

Injury Updates at Chelsea

Chelsea will hope to recover a number of players in time for the visit of Arsenal on 21 October. It is hoped Reece James will be available to captain the side with Benoit Badiashile also edging towards his return having not featured this season due to a groin injury.

Axel Disasi, ever-present in Pochettino’s starting XI this season, was called into the France squad to replace the injured Dayot Upamecano but withdrew himself on Monday night.

The 25-year-old underwent a scan which revealed ‘a tear in the quadriceps of the left thigh’, according to a statement released by the French FA.

Disasi’s teammate Malo Gusto was also called into Didier Deschamps’ squad on Monday to replace the injured Jules Kounde.

Ben Chilwell meanwhile is facing an extended period out after suffering a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup win over Brighton. The England international is expected to be ruled out until December.
