Axel Disasi calls on Chelsea teammates to be ‘killers’ after Bournemouth draw
Mauricio Pochettino’s tricky start as Chelsea manager continued on Sunday as the Blues failed to break down Bournemouth in a frustrating 0-0 draw.
The result means Chelsea have picked up just five points from their opening five league games under Pochettino, and defender Axel Disasi has called on his teammates to be more ruthless in front of goal.
‘We have to keep going in this way but be more killers in the opponents’ box,’ said Disasi. ‘We created many chances so we have to keep doing this but we have to kill the opponent. When we see the game [again], I think we [will realise we] deserved to win. We didn’t score so the feeling is a little bit sad. That’s football. We have to keep going because I think we are performing on the pitch but just have to kill the opportunities when we have them.’
The 25-year-old is confident that Chelsea will improve given time, as they try to blend together a huge amount of new arrivals while also dealing with a string of injuries to first team players.
‘It is my first year here and I feel better and know my teammates more game-by-game,’ said Disasi. ‘The team is very young but we have a lot of quality. In the future, it will be good and I will be more comfortable on the pitch with my team-mates. I am doing my best to help the team. I think the future will be good.’
Pochettino’s Injury Woes
Pochettino bemoaned the injury problems he is dealing with at Chelsea, but vowed to remain positive and strive for better results.
‘We have had bad luck. We had 12 injured today, plus Noni [Madueke], [Marc] Cucurella and [Moises] Caicedo. Then we have three-four young guys and two keepers on the bench,’ he said.
‘Okay, am I going to cry, am I going to complain? I need to accept this, the challenge and keep being positive. Of course Bournemouth is a good team and is going to compete.
‘Every team is going to compete and be difficult. Fair or not fair that is the circumstance we need to accept and we need to be positive, patient.’
Conclusion
Chelsea have had a difficult start to the season under Mauricio Pochettino, but Axel Disasi believes they can turn things around if they can be more ruthless in front of goal. The Blues have a lot of new arrivals and are dealing with a number of injuries, but Disasi is confident that they will improve given time.
