Robert Sanchez Completes £25 Million Move to Chelsea
Robert Sanchez has completed a £25 million move to Chelsea by signing a seven-year deal with the club. The Spaniard lost his spot as Brighton’s first choice to Jason Steele last season and he made it clear that he wanted to leave the Seagulls.
The former Rochdale goalkeeper is capped for Spain, and has kept David De Gea out of recent national squads. Chelsea have been locked in negotiations with Brighton over a move for Moises Caicedo but they’ve made little progress.
However, a deal for Sanchez didn’t take long with Chelsea agreeing to pay an upfront fee of £20m, with a further £5m in add-ons.
Sanchez to Compete with Kepa for Starting Berth
Sanchez will compete with Kepa for a starting berth at Stamford Bridge, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to have two goalkeepers to play in all competitions. The Spaniard arrives as a replacement for Edouard Mendy, who left earlier this summer.
Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart said: ‘We’re very pleased to welcome Robert to Chelsea and he adds further quality to our goalkeeping unit. Robert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country. We are excited to watch him work with Mauricio and his coaching team during the season ahead.’
Chelsea Looking to Improve Squad
Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer, looking to improve their squad ahead of the new season. They have already signed Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, and Xavier Mbuyamba.
The Blues have also been linked with moves for Kai Havertz and Declan Rice, but they are yet to make any progress on those deals. Sanchez’s arrival should bolster their goalkeeping options and give them more depth in that position.
Gary Lineker Not Convinced by Manchester United Signing
Meanwhile, Gary Lineker has expressed his doubts about Manchester United’s signing of Rasmus Hojlund. The former Barcelona star said he was “not convinced” by the move, citing the player’s lack of experience in the Premier League.
