Chelsea consider move for Kasper Schmeichel as Kepa Arrizabalaga agrees loan to Real Madrid

There is something of a goalkeeping merry-go-round going on at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea already signing Robert Sanchez from Brighton for £25m and Kepa Arrizabalaga now departing on a season-long loan to Real Madrid.

The Blues are now considering a move for Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options. Schmeichel is something of a Premier League icon, having won the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester City after spending over a decade with the club.

Kasper Schmeichel’s Career

Schmeichel moved to Nice last year and made 46 appearances in his first season with the French club, although his performances were mixed. The Denmark international is now being considered by Chelsea, who are looking for another stopper to add to their squad.

Schmeichel would almost certainly go to Stamford Bridge as back-up for Sanchez, but would bring with him an enormous amount of experience and quality, although he will turn 37 in November.

Real Madrid’s Need for a New Goalkeeper

Real Madrid are in need of a new ‘keeper as Thibault Courtois has suffered a serious knee injury, so they are bringing in the Spain international from the Blues on a short-term deal.

Kepa has had an inconsistent time at Chelsea since joining from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, and the Blues are now looking to move on from the 25-year-old. He will be hoping to revive his career at the Bernabeu, where he will be competing with Alphonse Areola for the number one spot.

Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Options

Chelsea have already signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton for £25m and it appears that he will go straight into the starting line-up when they take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the Premier League. They will need another stopper in the squad, though, and Schmeichel could be the man to fill that role.

Schmeichel would bring with him an enormous amount of experience and quality, although he will turn 37 in November. He is also a Premier League icon, having won the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester City after spending over a decade with the club.

Conclusion

Chelsea are looking to bolster their goalkeeping options as Kepa Arrizabalaga agrees a season-long loan to Real Madrid. They are now considering a move for Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who would bring with him an enormous amount of experience and quality. It remains to be seen whether the Blues will make a move for Schmeichel, but it could be an astute signing if they do.
