Chelsea are reportedly considering a shock move to bring former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny back to London. The transfer business between the two clubs has been active in recent years, with Jorginho and Kai Havertz moving from Chelsea to Arsenal. Szczesny, who has been in top form for Juventus this season, last played in the Premier League nine years ago before leaving for Italy.
Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, is allegedly interested in signing Szczesny to solve a problem position in his squad. Pochettino has been backed by owner Todd Boehly, who has spent over £1 billion on players since taking over at Stamford Bridge. The club has already signed goalkeepers Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, but Pochettino is reportedly not satisfied with his options and is looking to make another signing in that department.
According to Tutto Juve, Chelsea could target Szczesny as a potential signing. The 34-year-old Polish international is believed to be available for around £8.5 million. Juventus is reportedly looking to reduce their wage bill, and Szczesny is one of the players they are willing to listen to offers for. He still has a year remaining on his contract, which is reported to be worth around £125,000-a-week.
Szczesny has been a key player for Juventus this season, making 32 appearances in Serie A and keeping 15 clean sheets. He already has experience playing in England, having spent 11 years at Arsenal from 2006 to 2017. During his time at Arsenal, he helped the team win two FA Cup titles and played a total of 181 games for the club. He left Arsenal permanently for Juventus in 2017 and has since won three Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia medals with the Italian club.
If Chelsea were to sign Szczesny, it would not only strengthen their goalkeeper position but also bring back a familiar face who remains popular with supporters. Despite his successes in Italy, Szczesny may be open to a return to the Premier League in search of regular first-team football. His experience and proven ability could be valuable additions to Chelsea’s squad as they aim to compete for trophies.
