Chelsea Player Seeks Mourinho Reunion at Roma

Romelu Lukaku reportedly offers himself to Roma to reunite with Jose Mourinho

The transfer saga surrounding Romelu Lukaku has been rumbling on throughout the summer, with the Belgian international seemingly no closer to finding a new club. With just a week to go before the transfer window closes, it appears that a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho at Roma may be on the cards.

Lukaku’s Search for a New Club

At first it seemed as if Lukaku would be returning to Inter Milan on a permanent deal, but they were unable to agree a fee with Chelsea and later pulled out of negotiations after learning the striker had been in talks with rivals Juventus.

However, while personal terms have been agreed, the Turin club are unwilling to meet the Blues’ £35million asking price and Mauricio Pochettino is not keen on a swap-deal involving Dusan Vlahovic.

Furthermore, Juventus fans have vocally protested against signing Lukaku, and the deal looks increasingly likely to fall through.

There have been offers from the Saudi Pro League but the Belgian international has no interest in moving there, and as such he is in limbo and currently training with Chelsea’s U21s.

Lukaku Offers Himself to Roma

Having not spoken to Pochettino even once since he arrived at Stamford Bridge, it seems highly unlikely that he has any future with the west Londoners, who are getting increasingly more desperate to sell their former record-signing.

And they may well be offered a life-line in this regard, with La Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting that Lukaku is seeking a move to Roma and has offered his services to the Serie A side.

The 30-year-old wants to return to Italy and at Roma would be reunited with his former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager worked briefly with the striker at Stamford Bridge before selling him to Everton, later bringing him in to Old Trafford in 2017, and the pair have a good relationship. In all, Lukaku has scored 33 goals and made 11 assists in 76 appearances under Mourinho.

Will Roma Take Him?

It remains to be seen if Roma are even interested in signing him however, given they already have Paulo Dybala, Andrea Belotti and Tammy Abraham on their books. Ironically, Chelsea actually sold Abraham to Roma to make way for Lukaku in 2021, with the England star enduring a far better time since, though he is currently out until the new year with a cruciate ligament injury.

Conclusion

With just days left before the transfer window closes, it remains to be seen where Romelu Lukaku will end up. A reunion with Jose Mourinho at Roma could be on the cards, but it remains to be seen if the Serie A side will take him. For now, all we can do is wait and see what happens next.
