Chelsea make seventh January signing as Malo Gusto joins from Lyon to provide competition for Reece James – but won’t make his debut soon

    Chelsea have made their seventh signing of the January transfer window.

    The Blues announced on Monday that Lyon right-back Malo Gusto has joined the club.

    Gusto penned a contract until 2030, but will stay with Lyon until the end of the season.

    The 19-year-old will likely provide competition for Reece James, who continues to struggle with injury problems.

    Gusto is a France Under-21 international and one of the most promising young defenders in Ligue 1.

    Since making his debut in 2021, he has featured 54 times for Lyon.
