Levi Colwill, the 20-year-old centre-back who is currently on loan at Brighton, has caught the attention of both Manchester City and Liverpool. However, despite reported interest from the two Premier League giants, Chelsea have no intention of selling their talented youngster.
Colwill is considered to be one of the best prospects to come through Chelsea’s academy in recent years. He has impressed during his loan spell at Brighton, where he has made 15 appearances and established himself as one of Roberto De Zerbi’s favourites.
City see Colwill as an ideal option to replace Aymeric Laporte and challenge Nathan Ake for the left side of their back three. Meanwhile, Liverpool believe that Colwill could be the long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who has struggled with form and injuries in recent times.
Despite the interest from these two clubs, Chelsea are not willing to part ways with Colwill. The Blues’ hierarchy is well aware of the youngster’s potential and sees him as one of several young players at the club who could become world-class.
In fact, reports suggest that Chelsea have already slapped a £150 million price tag on Colwill. Todd Boehly, the club’s owner, is keen to extend Colwill’s contract as soon as possible, with his current deal set to expire in 2025. There is an automatic option for three more years, but that can only be triggered when Colwill reaches a certain amount of games for Chelsea.
Colwill himself is eager to impress at Stamford Bridge and wants his chance to come next season. He has no intention of going out on loan again and hopes to line up alongside the likes of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile in an exciting Chelsea XI.
Overall, it is clear that Chelsea values Colwill highly and sees him as a key part of their future plans. While Manchester City and Liverpool may be interested in signing him, it seems unlikely that Chelsea will let him go anytime soon.
