Chelsea are close to bringing Frank Lampard back to manage the club on an interim basis until the end of the season.
Reports suggest a deal could be done in time for the club’s all-time top goal scorer to be back in the dugout for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Wolves.
According to The Athletic, an agreement that would see Lampard return to Stamford Bridge for a second time as a manager is close.
Chelsea are looking for their third permanent coach of the season following Graham Potter’s departure on Sunday night.
Julian Nagelsmann, who parted ways with Bayern Munich at the end of March, and former Spain boss Luis Enrique are both in the running with the Spaniard holding talks with the club in London on Wednesday.
The Blues will not rush the process however with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali committed to carrying out a thorough process before naming a long-term option.
Bruno Saltor took charge of Tuesday’s goalless draw against Liverpool but Lampard could now be named interim boss in time for Chelsea’s next game against Wolves should talks go smoothly, the Guardian report.
Lampard played for Chelsea for over a decade and managed the club between July 2019 and January 2021 when he was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
The former England international’s most recent role was at Everton, sacked by the Merseyside club in January.
