Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle in race for Nordsjaelland youngster Mario Dorgeles
Highly-rated midfielder Mario Dorgeles is attracting attention from top European clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle. The 19-year-old currently plays for Danish side FC Nordsjaelland but has been a bit-part player for the Superliga side since the start of the year.
Despite his limited playing time, Dorgeles has caught the eye of Chelsea scouts who have been monitoring his performances, according to Danish outlet Tipsbladet. This interest comes as no surprise, as Nordsjaelland has a history of signing young African prospects through their links with the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana. In the past, the club has sold players like Mohammed Kudus and Simon Adingra for significant profits.
However, Chelsea will not have a clear path to sign Dorgeles, as both Lille and Monaco from France are also interested in securing the midfielder’s signature. Arsenal and Newcastle have also been linked with a move for the Ivorian youngster in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle’s interest in Dorgeles reportedly came from their former sporting director, Dan Ashworth, who recommended the player’s talents to the club. Despite the potential low cost of the transfer, Chelsea will need to be cautious due to their financial situation. The club has recently reported a pre-tax loss of £90.1m for the year ending June 30, 2023, after spending £1billion on new signings since their takeover.
Nevertheless, Chelsea is still expected to be active in the summer transfer market and has other targets in mind. Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams are rumored to be on the club’s radar.
As the race for Dorgeles intensifies, it remains to be seen which club will ultimately secure his services. The young midfielder has already been capped for Ivory Coast’s under-23 side, indicating his potential and talent.
