Reports have emerged that Brighton are willing to listen to offers for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who is reportedly a transfer target for Chelsea and Tottenham. Both clubs are in the market for a new number one this summer, with their current options struggling to make the grade this season. Chelsea currently have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in their ranks, but neither have looked convincing of late. Tottenham, on the other hand, are looking for a successor to their long-time keeper and captain Hugo Lloris, who is 36 and has lacked consistency for some years now.
One name that has been linked to both London clubs, as well as Manchester United, is Brentford star David Raya. However, another Spanish keeper playing in the Premier League has emerged as an alternative option, with Sanchez free to leave the Amex in the summer according to talkSPORT. The 25-year-old has been at Brighton for a decade now and has played a big part in the club’s rise up the table, keeping 28 clean sheets in 88 games for the Seagulls, conceding a respectable 101 goals in that time.
Sanchez has recently found his place in the team under threat, with Roberto De Zerbi preferring Jason Steele in-between the sticks. However, the manager has already told Sanchez that he will play the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United. Sanchez and De Zerbi are reportedly still on good terms but should they receive a suitable offer for the keeper in the summer, they will not stand in his way of first-team football.
The Spain international is valued at around £28 million, but it remains to be seen whether he will be willing to even leave the club that means so much to him, especially when they have a great chance at qualifying for European football. The Seagulls are currently sixth in the table, seven points off the top four but with a game in hand over Newcastle and Manchester United.
Brighton face a pivotal game against another top-four rival Tottenham on Saturday, who sit one place and four points above them in the league but having played two games more.
