Chelsea ‘agree personal terms’ with Wesley Fofana with Leicester expected to accept world-record bid in excess of £80million

Chelsea are edging closer to another summer signing after agreeing personal terms with Wesley Fofana.

According to the Daily Mail, there’s a growing sense that Leicester City could be tempted to sell the player for the right price.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are desperate to sign another defender following their move to bring in Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this summer.

This comes after the Blues lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at the end of their contracts, with the pair joining Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

While one replacement is through the door, Fofana is a player who would certainly be an exciting addition for the short and long term.

Chelsea have already had two offers of £60m and £65m rejected for the 21-year-old defender, but it seems that they’re not being put off.

With Leicester valuing the player at around £80million, Tuchel’s side are hoping that they’re able to strike a deal to bring the talented defender to Stamford Bridge.

Fofana has made 51 appearances for the Foxes, establishing himself as a key player despite the fact that he missed a large chunk of last term with a broken leg.

Brendan Rodgers was asked about the player during his press conference this week, and asked if there was an offer, he said: “Not that I am aware of. There were two, but again, nowhere near what the club would even think about.”

Rodgers added: “The point to reiterate is that we are not looking to sell Wesley. He is not a player we are actively looking to sell but naturally if there is interest from other clubs, that is looked at by the club.

“He is a top young defender. There are not too many about at his age. He is someone we would love to keep here but we will have to see what develops.

“Another year here for him at least would be really important for his development, but he is quite calm and relaxed in the situation. He is aware of the interest.

“He understands where we are as a club and where we see him. He’s just getting on with his work and training well, and whenever there is any communication we are able to have a conversation.”
