Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his side’s performance in their 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Reds had the better of the chances throughout the game, but were unable to find a way past the Blues’ resolute defence.
Klopp was pleased with the point, and believes it is a step in the right direction for his side. “We had a few good chances, but we didn’t take them,” he said. “But overall, I think it’s a step in the right direction. We defended well and kept a clean sheet, which is always important.”
The draw keeps Liverpool in third place in the Premier League table, two points behind Manchester United in second. Klopp is confident that his side can continue to improve and push for a top-four finish this season. “We have to keep going and keep fighting,” he said. “We have some tough games coming up, but I believe we can do it. We have the quality and the character to get the job done.”
Klopp also praised his players for their efforts against Chelsea, and believes they can take confidence from the result. “We showed great spirit and determination today,” he said. “It was a difficult game against a very good team, but we stood up to the challenge and got a point. We can take a lot of confidence from this result.”
The draw against Chelsea means Liverpool are now unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches, and Klopp is hopeful that this run of form can continue. “We have to keep going and keep pushing for more points,” he said. “We have some tough games coming up, but I believe we can do it. We just have to stay focused and keep working hard.”
Liverpool fans can watch highlights of the game on Match of the Day on Wednesday 5 April at 22:40 BST on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport app. The Reds will be hoping to build on their point against Chelsea when they face West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Saturday.
