Ange Postecoglou hailed ‘special individual’ Callum McGregor as the Celtic captain enjoyed victory on his 400th game for the Hoops.
Aaron Mooy set up Jota for a 51st-minute opener before the Aussie netted a penalty as Celtic beat Dundee United 2-0 to restore their nine-point lead in the cinch Premiership.
But the Hoops boss singled out McGregor for praise, saying: ‘I dismissed it (the 400th game) before the game, but I said to the lads they’ve got to appreciate they’re sharing a dressing room with a special individual. He’ll go down as a legend of this club.’
McGregor added after the game: ‘I’ll just keep going until someone tells me to stop.’
It was another dominant win for Celtic who had 18 efforts at goal to the home side’s four.
Postecoglou said: ‘I thought we handled it well, difficult conditions. They were really disciplined in their structure, particularly the first half. We started the second half really well, scored a couple goals could have scored a couple more. A really strong performance.’
In a cheeky reference to Rangers counterpart Michael Beale’s ‘lucky man’ comment about the Celtic boss, Postecoglou added: ‘Aaron [Mooy] has been outstanding since the break. I am the least surprised about that.
‘It’s one of these things in football that it literally landed at my doorstep. I knew what I was getting. Maybe you can use that term “I’m a lucky man”.’
