Casemiro: Why I Left Real Madrid for Manchester United
Manchester United’s new signing Casemiro has revealed why he chose to leave Real Madrid for Old Trafford last summer. The Brazilian international says the opportunity to move to the Red Devils came at the perfect time for him and he would not have made the switch earlier in his career.
The 31-year-old midfielder joined Manchester United from the Santiago Bernabeu for £60m, signing a four-year deal with the club. Although some questioned the fee for a player at that stage of his career, Casemiro has been excellent for United so far, scoring seven goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.
In an interview with Placar TV, Casemiro explained why he decided to leave Real Madrid and why he wouldn’t have made the move two or three years ago.
“I had various reasons [for leaving],” he said. “I had various reasons that one ends up placing on a scale and ends up compensating. Speaking of reasons… of course, I talked to my family. It’s important to talk to my family. They accepted that everything was going to be fine. My wife, my family, my children, of course, their happiness is also important.
“There was a time to leave the club, to leave a great club. There are ages when you have that will, that strength to move. I would also tell you that if it had been two years ago I would not have left. If it had happened in two or three years I would not have left Real Madrid to go to another big one in Europe. There is an ambition to want to play in another league.”
Casemiro’s move to Manchester United has been a success so far and he has become an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. The Brazilian has been a key figure in United’s midfield and his experience and leadership have been invaluable to the team.
The midfielder has also been praised for his defensive work rate and ability to break up play, while his passing range and ability to pick out a teammate with a long ball has been impressive. He has also chipped in with some important goals, including a crucial equaliser against Aston Villa in February.
Casemiro’s arrival at Old Trafford has been a huge boost for Manchester United and his presence in midfield has helped them become one of the most formidable teams in the Premier League this season. With his experience and quality, it looks like Casemiro will continue to be an important player for the Red Devils for years to come.
