Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho is set for another loan move after returning from RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan at RB Leipzig but had his loan spell cut short due to a lack of game time. Now back at Liverpool, Carvalho could be on the move again in the January transfer window.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Carvalho will not be staying at Liverpool and several clubs, including Southampton, are interested in signing him. This comes as a surprise considering Carvalho’s experience in the Champions League with RB Leipzig.
A move to Southampton could benefit Carvalho as he would likely go straight into the first team. Liverpool is keen on ensuring he gets game time as he is part of the club’s future plans. Leicester, currently sitting at the top of the Championship, is also reportedly interested in signing Carvalho.
Carvalho’s time at RB Leipzig was unsuccessful, playing just over 360 minutes across 15 appearances. The recent signing of Eljif Elmas, who plays in a similar position, further limited Carvalho’s opportunities in Germany.
RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Rouven Schroder, expressed that both parties expected more from Carvalho’s time at the club and decided to end his loan early. Liverpool will now have to decide how to reintegrate Carvalho into the squad during his time between loan spells.
