Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has reminded manager Jurgen Klopp of his previous criticism of Gareth Southgate for playing Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield for England. Despite Klopp’s initial distaste for the defender’s role, he has recently utilised him in midfield. Alexander-Arnold featured in the middle of the park during England’s 4-0 win over Andorra in a World Cup qualifier in September 2021, a decision that Klopp criticised, saying that he would rather have him as the six than the eight. However, Carragher believes that Alexander-Arnold can continue to challenge for a midfield spot under Southgate and could even play a midfield role. The 24-year-old shone once again in midfield during Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Leicester, scoring a superb free-kick.
