St. Louis Cardinals Hire Chaim Bloom as Advisor to President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak
The St. Louis Cardinals have made a significant addition to their baseball operations department by hiring former Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom in an advisory role to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak. This move comes as the Cardinals seek fresh perspectives and a new direction for their organization.
Bloom, who led the Red Sox to the American League Championship Series in 2021, brings a wealth of experience to the Cardinals. Prior to his time with the Red Sox, he spent 15 years in the Tampa Bay Rays baseball operations department, including three years as the senior vice president of baseball operations.
In a press release, Bloom expressed his excitement about joining the Cardinals and his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success. He praised Mozeliak and his team for their warm welcome and looks forward to building relationships within the organization.
The Cardinals had been linked to Bloom since the beginning of the offseason, following their first 90-plus loss season since 1990. Mozeliak, who has been with the Cardinals for 16 years, recognized the need for new perspectives and believed an external addition would help refresh the front office, which typically promotes from within.
Mozeliak spoke highly of Bloom, stating that his well-respected reputation and outside perspective will be valuable for the organization. Having a fresh set of eyes on all aspects of baseball operations is expected to benefit the Cardinals moving forward.
The Cardinals have been active this offseason, making several key acquisitions to strengthen their roster. They added three starting pitchers in Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson, as well as two relief pitchers Nick Robertson and Andrew Kittredge through trades. The hiring of Bloom adds another important piece to their offseason plans.
With Bloom’s expertise and insights, the Cardinals are optimistic about their future success. This strategic move demonstrates their commitment to making necessary changes and improvements to regain their winning form.
