The Championship title match between Burnley and Blackburn at Ewood Park turned ugly as a scuffle broke out after Burnley secured the title. The Clarets had already won promotion back to the Premier League under the leadership of Vincent Kompany. Burnley fans were ecstatic to win the title against their biggest rivals with Manuel Benson scoring the only goal of the match. However, moments after the final whistle was blown, players went over to the away fans to celebrate the victory, and Blackburn players reacted violently towards Burnley captain Jack Cork. A fracas broke out between stars and coaches, and Kompany had to dive into the middle of the scuffle to drag Cork out while coach Craig Bellamy had the ex-Swansea star around the neck. Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson was also involved as tempers hit boiling point. The game was marred by trouble in the stands, where punches were thrown in the crowd. Burnley’s win over Blackburn means it is mathematically impossible for second-placed Sheffield United to catch them, going 13 points clear while the Blades still have four games. Burnley is back in the Premier League at the first time of asking after getting relegated to the Championship last season, and they have done so by largely changing their culture from a rigid and tough side to a more expansive and attractive style of football.
