Burnley in Talks to Sign Zeki Amdouni and Nathan Redmond
Burnley Football Club is making significant progress in their negotiations to sign Basel forward Zeki Amdouni and is also in advanced talks to secure the services of Nathan Redmond on a free transfer. These potential signings would further strengthen Burnley’s attacking options for the upcoming season.
Zeki Amdouni, 22, spent last season on loan at Basel, where he showcased his talent by scoring an impressive 22 goals and providing five assists in 52 appearances. His performances were so impressive that Basel triggered an option to make his move permanent in May 2023. Amdouni’s addition to Burnley’s squad would bring youth and international pedigree to Vincent Kompany’s attack. The versatile forward has already scored five goals in five games for the Switzerland national team, including a remarkable hat-trick against Andorra and Romania last month.
Similarly, Nathan Redmond, 29, is currently without a club after his contract at Besiktas expired earlier this month. The former Southampton winger had a productive season in Turkey, scoring six goals and providing six assists in 28 appearances. Redmond’s experience and versatility would be valuable assets for Burnley. He is best known for his time at Southampton, where he made 232 appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 27 assists. Redmond also has one appearance for the England national team, highlighting his quality as a player.
Burnley has already made moves to bolster their attacking options this summer by making Michael Obafemi’s loan move from Swansea City permanent. However, Obafemi will miss the start of the season due to hamstring surgery. The potential signings of Amdouni and Redmond would further strengthen Burnley’s attacking depth and provide additional competition for places in the starting lineup.
The negotiations for these signings are expected to be finalized before Burnley’s pre-season fixture against Genk in Belgium next week. The club is eager to complete the deals and integrate the new signings into the squad as soon as possible.
In addition to these potential signings, Burnley is also set to announce the signing of under-21 European Champion James Trafford. The 20-year-old goalkeeper’s medical checks have been completed, and the final formalities will be finalized after his holiday. Trafford’s arrival would further strengthen Burnley’s goalkeeping options and provide competition for the number one spot.
However, not all potential deals have come to fruition for Burnley. The club had been pursuing a loan deal for Borussia Dortmund center-back Soumaila Coulibaly. However, the deal fell through due to a small medical concern that was flagged during his medical examination. Burnley had agreed on a mandatory buy option of £15 million for next summer, but the club decided to walk away from the deal due to the medical concern.
Despite this setback, Burnley remains focused on securing the signings of Amdouni and Redmond. These additions would significantly enhance the squad’s attacking prowess and provide manager Vincent Kompany with more options and flexibility in his team selection.
As the summer transfer window progresses, Burnley fans eagerly await official announcements regarding these potential signings. The club’s ambition to strengthen the squad demonstrates their determination to compete at a high level in the upcoming season. With the addition of talented players like Amdouni and Redmond, Burnley aims to make a strong impact in the Premier League and achieve their goals for the season ahead.
