BT Sport is undergoing significant changes, including the axing of their popular Saturday afternoon show, Score. The show, which has been on air since 2016, provides live updates of games in the Premier League on Saturday afternoons, as well as action around Europe. The decision to scrap the show has been taken as part of a wider rebranding effort, which will see BT Sport and Eurosport combine in a 50/50 joint venture with Warner Bros Discovery. The new channel, TNT Sports, will support the same live sports fans enjoy on BT Sport today.
The future of top presenters, including Jules Breach, Robbie Savage, and Chris Sutton, remains unclear amid the changes. Breach is the main host of the BT Sport Score show. The Sun reports that Breach had been informed of the decision to scrap Score, as well as regular guests Sutton and Savage. However, there has been fury behind the scenes from members of staff that had not been told and have not been put on formal notice.
Despite attracting over a million viewers every week, BT Sport’s new bosses are keen to cut costs, and more changes are on the way. The channel’s studio is set to be relocated from Stratford to a smaller base in Stockley, near Heathrow. The move comes just weeks after Sky Sports announced that Soccer AM would be scrapped and replaced with Saturday Social, which will look at the social media side of football.
A spokesman for the company said: “Editorial reviews are undertaken as a matter of course in preparation for every new season. For next season, this includes considering the programming that will continue, as the channel becomes TNT Sports, and as part of the line-up supporting the same live sport fans enjoy on BT Sport today. As part of this process, we have confirmed to staff that BT Sport Score will not be continuing next season.”
The decision to axe Score has come as a surprise to many fans of the show, who have taken to social media to express their disappointment. The show has been praised for its coverage of live games and its engaging presenters. However, it seems that the new owners of BT Sport are looking to make significant changes to the channel in order to cut costs and attract a wider audience.
The future of Breach, Savage, and Sutton remains unclear, with many fans hoping that they will continue to be a part of the new-look channel. However, it seems that the new owners are keen to shake things up and create a fresh new look for BT Sport. Only time will tell what the future holds for the popular presenters and the channel as a whole.
