# Bruno Fernandes Rejects Multiple Offers from Saudi Pro League to Stay at Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes has quickly become a key figure at Manchester United since his £46 million move from Sporting in January 2020. The Portugal international has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League this summer, but according to reports, he has rejected multiple offers to stay at Old Trafford.
Several players have already made the move to Saudi Arabia this summer, including Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fernandes’ Portugal teammate Ruben Neves. However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Fernandes turned down more than two approaches from Saudi Pro League sides last month.
Fernandes is now favourite to become United’s new captain after Erik ten Hag decided to strip Harry Maguire of the armband on Sunday. In a statement released by Maguire, the defender said: ‘After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.’
Maguire continued: ‘Since the day I took on the role, three and half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It’s one of the greatest honours in club football. I’ve done everything I possibly could to help United be successful – on and off the field. I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support.’
It remains to be seen who will take over the captaincy at Old Trafford, but Fernandes is now the favourite for the role after rejecting multiple offers from the Saudi Pro League. The 28-year-old has been an integral part of United’s squad since his arrival and his commitment to the club is clear for all to see.
