Bruno Fernandes Praises ‘Impressive’ £103m Manchester United Transfer Target
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has heaped praise on Benfica defender Joao Neves, calling him an “excellent” player who is ready for a move to a top club. Neves, who is just 19 years old, has already become a regular in Benfica’s first team and is also a part of the Portuguese national team alongside Fernandes.
Neves’ performances have caught the attention of several top clubs in Europe, and while Benfica denied any talks with Manchester United in January, it is clear that the Red Devils are one of the frontrunners to secure his signature. However, United would have to meet Neves’ hefty £103 million release clause, which may be a stumbling block in the negotiations.
Although Fernandes did not address United’s interest specifically, he expressed his belief that Neves is prepared for a move to a big club. Fernandes stated, “I don’t know if the United rumors are true, but I know he is ready for that big jump. He is an excellent player, he’s with the National team. That’s also why the big clubs are after him.”
United is expected to release Raphael Varane when his contract expires at the end of the season in an effort to reduce the wage bill, as the Frenchman is currently one of the highest-paid players at the club. Additionally, Jonny Evans is likely to leave, and there is a possibility that either Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof could be sold as well.
The pursuit of Joao Neves signals United’s ambition to strengthen their defensive line. With the departure of key players and the need for reinforcements, securing the young Portuguese talent could be a significant step towards achieving their goals.
