Bruno Fernandes looks set to miss Manchester United’s crucial clash against Tottenham on Thursday night due to an ankle injury sustained in the FA Cup semi-final win over Brighton at Wembley last Sunday. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder had suffered the injury earlier in the game, but many were hopeful that it was not too serious and he would be available for the Red Devils’ next two matches. However, a report from the Mirror has now confirmed that Fernandes will miss the game against Spurs and could also be absent for the clash against Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Portugal international has been a pivotal player for Erik ten Hag this season, scoring 10 and making 13 assists in 50 appearances so far, and often captaining the side in the absence of Harry Maguire. His injury is yet another worry for Ten Hag, with fellow midfielders Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay also out, as well as forward Alejandro Garnacho and first-choice centre-back pairing Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
United have nine games left to play this season, including the FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City on 3rd June. The Red Devils are currently fourth in the table, five points clear of Villa and six points clear of Spurs, having played several games less than both sides.
