Denver Broncos Running Back Javonte Williams Aims to Return Strong from ACL Injury
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams is optimistic about his return to the field after suffering a torn ACL in Week 4 of the previous season. Williams expressed his confidence in being cleared for the start of training camp and participating in practices after the team’s veteran players report on July 25.
Williams, a second-round draft pick by the Broncos in 2021, made an immediate impact in his rookie season and was named to the All-Rookie team. Unfortunately, his promising campaign was cut short when he suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee during the Broncos’ loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on October 2. Since then, Williams has been diligently working with the team’s training and conditioning staff to regain his strength and mobility.
The Broncos coaching staff, including head coach Sean Payton, has consistently expressed their belief that Williams would be ready for the start of training camp. Williams’ recent statement provides the most definitive confirmation of his progress thus far.
The team’s confidence in Williams is evident in their offseason moves. Despite a deep running back class in the draft and several veteran backs available in free agency, the Broncos did not use any of their draft picks or sign a veteran running back. Instead, they signed Samaje Perine, who has had limited playing time since his rookie season in 2017.
Williams’ powerful running style and ability to break tackles quickly made him a fan favorite and allowed him to rush for an impressive 903 yards as a rookie. He had already accumulated 204 rushing yards in just 47 carries before his injury last season.
In his road to recovery, Williams has sought advice and support from former Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb, as well as wide receiver Tim Patrick and linebacker Aaron Patrick, both of whom suffered ACL tears last season. These conversations have helped Williams overcome the mental hurdles associated with returning to the field after a significant injury.
One of the biggest challenges for Williams has been regaining his confidence in his physical abilities. The first two months of recovery were spent trying to regain full range of motion in his knee. However, Williams is determined to return to the field without any fear or hesitation. He plans to continue practicing with a brace on his surgically repaired knee to provide additional support.
Williams’ dedication and positive mindset have impressed his teammates, including cornerback Pat Surtain II, who expressed his excitement about Williams’ return. Surtain eagerly awaits the opportunity to see Williams back in action alongside the rest of the team.
As the start of training camp approaches, all eyes will be on Javonte Williams as he looks to make a triumphant comeback from his ACL injury. The Broncos organization and fans alike are hopeful that Williams will pick up where he left off and continue to establish himself as one of the league’s most promising young running backs. With his determination and the support of his teammates, there’s no doubt that Williams will come back stronger than ever.
