Denver Broncos’ Javonte Williams Set to Return from Injury in Preseason Game

Aug 15, 2023, 04:53 PM ET

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton announced on Tuesday that running back Javonte Williams will make his long-awaited return to the field in Saturday’s preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. This will be Williams’ first game since suffering a torn ACL and LCL in Week 4 of last season.

“He’s doing well, we’ll have a plan. I plan on playing him, we’ll see pitch count wise towards the end of the week. We’ll be smart, but I do see him getting to play some,” Payton said.

Williams, who was not placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp, was a second-round draft pick by the Broncos in 2021. He had an impressive rookie season, earning a spot on the league’s All-Rookie team. Williams accounted for 1,219 total yards, with 903 of those coming from rushing, and scored seven touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Williams’ promising season was cut short due to his injury, with only 204 rushing yards at the time. However, his return to the field is highly anticipated by both fans and the coaching staff.

The Denver Broncos have been eagerly awaiting Williams’ return as they look to bolster their running game. With his explosive speed and agility, Williams has the potential to be a game-changer for the team. His ability to break tackles and gain extra yards after contact makes him a valuable asset on the field.

In addition to his physical attributes, Williams also possesses excellent vision and instincts, allowing him to find running lanes and make quick decisions. His versatility as a runner and receiver out of the backfield adds another dimension to the Broncos’ offense.

The preseason game against the 49ers will serve as a crucial test for Williams as he looks to regain his form and build confidence in his knee. It will also provide an opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate his progress and determine his readiness for the upcoming regular season.

While the Broncos will be cautious with Williams’ workload, they are eager to see him back in action. Payton mentioned that they will monitor his pitch count and be smart about managing his playing time. The ultimate goal is to ensure Williams’ long-term health and avoid any setbacks in his recovery.

The return of Javonte Williams is undoubtedly a positive development for the Denver Broncos. His presence on the field will not only provide a boost to the running game but also create opportunities for the passing game. Opposing defenses will have to account for Williams’ threat, which will open up the field for other playmakers on the team.

As the Broncos strive to improve their offense and compete in a highly competitive AFC West division, having a healthy and productive Javonte Williams will be crucial. His impact on the field can be a game-changer and help propel the team to success.

In conclusion, Javonte Williams’ return from injury is highly anticipated by both fans and the coaching staff of the Denver Broncos. His explosive playmaking ability and versatility make him a valuable asset to the team’s offense. The preseason game against the 49ers will serve as a crucial test for Williams as he looks to regain his form and build confidence in his knee. The Broncos will be cautious with his workload but are eager to see him back in action. With Williams’ return, the Broncos’ offense has the potential to reach new heights and compete at a higher level.
