Reports suggest that Brighton are willing to break their club record fee for Levi Colwill after Chelsea rejected their initial bid. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at the Amex and helped Brighton qualify for Europe for the first time ever with a sixth place finish. Brighton have already signed Joao Pedro from Watford for a club record fee of around £30m and are set to sign midfielders James Milner and Mahmoud Dahoud on a free from Liverpool and Dortmund respectively. However, they need to strengthen their squad to cope with the added fixtures of the Europa League next season. Brighton are now prepared to offer Chelsea £40m for Colwill’s services after their initial bid of £30m was rejected. Colwill is viewed as incredibly valuable as he is the only left-footed centre-back at Chelsea and has been touted as a future England international. Meanwhile, Chelsea are pursuing Seagulls defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo who is valued at £80m, a fee that could prove too much for the Blues following their lavish spending spree last season.
