Brighton Complete Record Signing of Joao Pedro from Watford
Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the club record signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Watford on a five-year deal. The 21-year-old, who joined the Hornets in 2020, moves to the Premier League club for a fee of just under £30m.
Brighton Agree Deal for Joao Pedro
Brighton agreed a deal on 5 May and Pedro was able to complete his switch once the summer transfer window opened. David Weir, Brighton’s technical director, said: “Joao has been a long-term target of ours and has also attracted a lot of interest from across Europe. He’s a brilliant young talent with an eye for goal. He will complement our existing forward line very well.”
Pedro’s Career at Watford
Pedro was signed by Watford from Brazilian club Fluminense in 2020 and went on to score 24 goals in 109 appearances for the Championship side. This season he scored 11 goals in 35 games, helping the Hornets to a mid-table finish.
Brighton Set for European Football Next Season
Brighton’s sixth-place league finish for Roberto De Zerbi’s side has secured them a Europa League spot for the first time in the club’s history. Pedro’s arrival will no doubt be welcomed by the Seagulls faithful as they prepare for their European adventure next season.
More Transfers Expected at Brighton
The Seagulls are also said to be close to agreeing a deal for Liverpool midfielder James Milner. With the transfer window now open, Brighton fans will be hoping for more exciting signings as they look to build on their impressive sixth-place finish in the Premier League this season.
