David Raya Set To Join Arsenal Despite Brentford Rejecting Opening Proposal
Arsenal are set to sign David Raya from Brentford despite the Bees rejecting their opening proposal. The Spanish international has made it clear that he wants to join the Gunners and has attracted interest from Spurs, Chelsea and Bayern Munich this summer.
Brentford Set £40m Fee for Raya
Brentford made it clear at the start of the window that Raya can leave the club for a fee of £40m. However, Arsenal have not come close to that fee with their opening proposal and The Athletic say Brentford are set to reject the Gunners’ offer.
Despite this, the two teams remain in dialogue over a fee and there’s optimism on all sides to get a deal done. If the deal goes through, it will take Arsenal’s spending past the £230m mark following the arrivals of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz.
Raya To Challenge Ramsdale for Starting Spot
Despite his impressive form last season, Arteta wants competition for Ramsdale. Raya is renowned as one of the best in the league with the ball at his feet and he played more passes than any other goalkeeper last season. He has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and is keen to challenge Ramsdale for a starting spot.
Arsenal Set To Spend Big This Summer
The Gunners have already spent big this summer and are now set to add Raya to their ranks. It is believed that the club are close to reaching an agreement with Brentford and that a deal could be announced soon.
This would be a major coup for Arsenal as they look to challenge for a top four spot this season. Raya is one of the best goalkeepers in the league and could prove to be a key signing for the Gunners.
