Brazil’s History-Making Endrick: Unveiling the Enigmatic Figure
From Pele to Ronaldo, Neymar to Viniscius Jr, Brazil has a rich history of producing teenage superstars. Now, there’s a new kid on the block – Endrick. The 17-year-old made history by becoming the youngest male goalscorer for club or country at Wembley Stadium when he scored a late winner for Brazil against England.
Comparisons have already been drawn between Endrick and Brazilian legend Romario. Former England midfielder Joe Cole noted their similar body shape and the way they tuck the ball away, while praising Endrick’s joy on the field. Gilberto Silva, another Brazilian football icon, commended Endrick’s performance and highlighted the significance of his goal for both the team and the manager.
Endrick, whose full name is Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa, joined the Palmeiras youth team at the age of 11. He caught the attention of international scouts when he helped Brazil win the under-16 Montaigu Tournament in France, finishing as the top scorer with five goals. In October 2022, he made his senior debut for Palmeiras and shortly after, his parents visited Chelsea’s training ground. However, when a deal couldn’t be reached with the Premier League club, Real Madrid stepped in.
Once Endrick turns 18 this July, he will move to Spain and join Real Madrid’s ranks. He will form a formidable forward line alongside his Brazilian teammates Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, as well as England’s Jude Bellingham and France’s Kylian Mbappe.
Endrick’s appearance at Wembley was only his third international cap, but he made an immediate impact by scoring just nine minutes after coming on as a substitute. This achievement is particularly noteworthy since he became the youngest player to play for the senior team since Ronaldo. Football expert Tim Vickery described Endrick as a prodigy and highlighted the significance of his goal at Wembley, a stadium where even Pele never had the opportunity to play.
Brazil’s head coach, Dorival Junior, expressed his optimism about Endrick’s future, stating that if he continues to show the same attitude, he will become an important figure not only in Brazilian football but also on the world stage.
Endrick’s story is one of promise and potential. As he embarks on his journey with Real Madrid and continues to represent Brazil, football fans will be eagerly watching his development and anticipating his future achievements. The young prodigy has already left his mark on the sport, and it seems that this is just the beginning of a remarkable career.
