Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, Liverpool wonderkids Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott, and Man United talent Anthony Elanga among nominees for Golden Boy award

Jude Bellingham, along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United starlets, has being included amongst the nominees for the 2022 Golden Boy.

The award is voted by journalists to determine the best young talent in European football, and players have to be 21 or under to qualify.

Several Premier League players make this years list, with Anthony Elanga of Manchester United, Liverpool duo Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, Leeds summer signing Wilfried Gnonto, and Arsenal new boy Marquinhos.

Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham is one of the frontrunners, and unsurprisingly so.

The 19-year-old Stourbridge-born midfielder netted against Manchester City in the Champions League for Dortmund in midweek.

After the match he was praised by Sky Blues Pep Guardiola.

“I was impressed when he was 17, imagine now that he’s 19, he grew up so [much],” the Man City boss said.

“Defensively he’s able to follow Ilkay Gundogan or Kevin [De Bruyne] in the pockets and win the duels. The transition is fast, have the sense for the second position right to the box for the goal he scored.

“So he’s an exceptional player, I think everyone knows it. Not because the manager of Manchester City is going to tell you. Everybody knows it.”

Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga and Barcelona midfielder Gavi also make the 40-man list, as well as Chelsea transfer target Josko Gvardiol, and Tottenham signing Destiny Udogie, who went out on loan to his old club Udinese upon his arrival.

Former Real Madrid and Netherlands midfielder Rafael van der Vaart was the first ever player to get his hands on the award in 2003.

The most recent winner is Barcelona’s Pedri, with the Spaniard claiming the prestigious honour in 2021.

Notable names to have won over the years include Wayne Rooney, Raheem Sterling, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
