Bordeaux Star Alberth Elis Hospitalized After Severe Head Injury

Bordeaux football player Alberth Elis was rushed to the hospital following a severe head injury during his team’s Ligue 2 clash against Guingamp. The incident occurred just 34 seconds into the game when Elis collided with Guingamp’s Donatien Gomis. The collision left Elis in need of immediate medical attention, and he was stretchered off the pitch.

The game was halted for eight minutes as Elis received treatment from medical staff while his teammates looked on, visibly distressed. Eventually, Elis was taken off the pitch to applause from the crowd and was transported to the hospital for further treatment and medical examinations.

Reports from French outlet L’Equipe suggest that Elis was conscious during the journey to the hospital. However, France Bleu, a France radio group, claims that Elis suffered “severe head trauma” as a result of the collision. The outlet also states that he was placed into an induced coma while being transported.

Currently, Elis is receiving treatment from medical teams in Bordeaux, with his parents by his side. The extent of his injuries and the expected recovery time are yet to be determined.

Despite the unfortunate incident, Bordeaux went on to win the game against Guingamp with a score of 1-0. Manager Albert Riera dedicated the victory to Elis, expressing his well wishes for the injured player’s recovery. Midfielder Gaetan Weissbeck also paid tribute to Elis in a post-match interview, dedicating the win to him.

Elis, a winger for Bordeaux, has been an integral part of the team this season, scoring five goals in 18 league games. He began his career in Honduras with CD Olimpia before moving to Monterrey in Mexico in 2016. After a loan spell at Houston, he made a permanent move in January 2018. Elis then played for Boavista before signing for Bordeaux on loan, which eventually led to another permanent transfer.

Elis has also represented the Honduran national team, earning 64 caps and scoring 13 goals. His absence will undoubtedly be felt both by Bordeaux and his national team during his recovery period.

The football community is now hoping for a speedy recovery for Alberth Elis, who has shown great talent and promise throughout his career. The incident serves as a reminder of the physical risks that players face on the pitch and highlights the importance of player safety in the sport.
