Blackburn Rovers Reject Crystal Palace’s Offer for Adam Wharton
Blackburn Rovers have turned down a bid from Crystal Palace to acquire the services of midfielder Adam Wharton. The club is seeking a higher price for the 19-year-old England youth international and also wants to retain him on loan until the summer. However, this arrangement does not suit their Premier League counterparts.
It remains uncertain whether Palace will continue their pursuit of Wharton as they look to strengthen their squad following the long-term Achilles injury suffered by Cheick Doucoure in November.
Wharton has impressed for Blackburn Rovers this season in the Championship, making 26 league appearances. He has started 22 of those matches and has contributed to five goals.
The highly-rated midfielder, who was named Blackburn’s young player of the season in the previous campaign, possesses several exciting qualities. Notably, his ability to use both feet and his willingness to take on a defensive role in central midfield.
Wharton excels at recovering possession and has showcased his defensive skills with big tackles to break up attacks. He also applies pressure effectively to prevent the opposition from playing or turning on the ball.
Crystal Palace has been facing a shortage of midfield options since Doucoure’s injury. The club’s pursuit of Wharton could potentially address this issue.
