Tottenham defender Ben Davies says he is ‘delighted’ to have signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2025.
Should he see this new deal through, Davies will have been a Spurs player for over a decade having moved to North London from Swansea in 2014 for £11million.
The 29-year-old has not always been a guaranteed starter at Tottenham yet has remained one of the most consistent and valuable members of the squad, making 270 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions.
Primarily a left-back, Davies featured many times as the left-sided centre-back in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation last campaign and was a key player in their terrific end of season run that helped the club qualify for the Champions League ahead of bitter rivals Arsenal.
‘I think after last season and the summer this club has had there’s no more exciting time than right now to be at this club,’ Davies said upon the announcement.
‘I’m enjoying my football and when the opportunity came from the club to extend my contract, I was more than happy to do so. I’ve had some really enjoyable times here and it really feels like home now.
‘There’s a good core of us who have been here for a long time now, the same faces not just in the team but around the building every day. It’s become family.’
2022/23 will be a big season for Davies as not only do Tottenham have serious ambitions about challenging for the Premier League title, but the Wales international is also set to play a key role for his country at November’s World Cup in Qatar.
‘We’ve bought players in that hopefully will improve us as a squad and make us more competitive,’ Davies, who has 74 caps for Wales, added.
‘It’s a jam-packed schedule around the World Cup so we’re going to need everybody to play their part. It’s an exciting season for both club and county.
‘It will be a bit strange stopping next season for that tournament, but I can’t wait. It’s been a long time since Wales have been there and we’ve given everything to be there, so we’ll just have to enjoy it.’
