Barnsley have taken a step closer to a quick return to the Championship after defeating Bolton 1-0 to progress to the League One play-off final. The Tykes will now face Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on May 29 after Liam Kitching’s first-half header proved to be the difference at Oakwell. Michael Duff’s side was in control of the match, and despite Bolton making a raft of changes ahead of the second half, they failed to create anything of note. Barnsley almost doubled their lead when Adam Phillips struck the crossbar with a dipping volley in the 66th minute. The closest Bolton came to an equaliser was when they were handed a free-kick inside the box in the 75th minute, but Aaron Morley blazed his effort high over the bar. Barsnley fans invaded the pitch following the full-time whistle.
