Barcelona consider move for Arsenal’s Jorginho in January transfer window

Barcelona are considering a move for Arsenal midfielder Jorginho in the January transfer window. Xavi is keen to strengthen his midfield following the departure of Sergio Busquets and the club were offered Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich last summer but the Catalans could not afford a move for the Germany international. Instead, the La Liga giants must target players approaching the final years of their contract or who are out of favour at their clubs.

Though Jorginho is only approaching his 32nd birthday, he is considered a target by the club, according to ESPN. The Italian joined Arsenal from Chelsea last January in a £10million move. Mikel Arteta felt the midfielder could provide Arsenal with more experience and he’s been pleased with how he’s settled at the club.

But a move to the Nou Camp would appeal to Jorginho, in the same fashion it did to former Manchester City ace Ilkay Gundogan. Barcelona have also shortlisted Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara for a possible return to the Nou Camp. Thiago left Barcelona for Bayern Munich in 2013, and he spent seven years in Germany before moving to Anfield.

Jorginho’s Career So Far

Jorginho began his career at Verona, making his debut in 2010. He then moved to Napoli in 2014, where he made over 200 appearances for the club. In 2018, he joined Chelsea and made 81 appearances for the club before moving to Arsenal last January. He has made 24 appearances for Arsenal so far this season.

Jorginho has also been a regular for the Italian national team since making his debut in 2016. He has made 33 appearances for Italy and was part of the squad that reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.

What Would Jorginho Bring to Barcelona?

Jorginho is a technically gifted midfielder who is comfortable on the ball and can pick out passes with ease. He is also an excellent reader of the game and is adept at breaking up opposition attacks. His experience in both Serie A and the Premier League would be invaluable to Barcelona.

The Italian midfielder is also known for his leadership qualities and would be a valuable addition to Barcelona’s midfield. He could provide much-needed cover for Sergio Busquets and provide competition for Frenkie de Jong.
