Aurelien Tchouameni confirms Liverpool transfer talks took place before £70million move to Real Madrid

France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has revealed discussions took place with Liverpool before his move to Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old secured a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu in July for an initial £70million, following a string of superb display’s for Monaco.

Tchouameni was always set to leave the principality this summer in the event of a satisfactory bid, with a host of Europe’s top club’s keen on acquiring his signature.

Paris Saint-Germain showed an interest in luring him to the French capital with reports in France suggesting Kylian Mbappe was given the task of convincing him to stay in Ligue 1 when the pair were on international duty together.

But the midfielder resisted temptations and has revealed that Liverpool were the first team to make contact with his representatives over a potential move.

“The first club to show interest in me was Liverpool,” Tchouameni told Le Parisien. “There were discussions, but as soon as Real Madrid entered, my mind was made up.”

“I didn’t hesitate for a second. I told my agent, take me to Real Madrid”.

The Frenchman has quickly cemented himself as a key component of Madrid’s midfield following Casemiro’s unforeseen exit to Manchester United late in the transfer window.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has struggled to put out his first-choice midfield this season due to a host of injuries.

The former Monaco man could have provided the cover needed to push the lacklustre Reds further up the table

Tchouameni is gearing up for his first taste of World Cup action when France face Australia live on talkSPORT on Tuesday evening.

With France bidding to retain the trophy without the injured Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, Tchouameni looks set to play a key role for coach Didier Deschamps in Qatar.
