Mikel Arteta Provides Injury Updates on Saka and Martinelli Ahead of Brentford Clash
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an update on the injuries of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, stating that he is hopeful both players will be fit for the Premier League clash against Brentford on Saturday. Saka and Martinelli were forced off during the Gunners’ impressive 6-0 victory over Sheffield United earlier this week.
In the match against Sheffield United, Arsenal scored five goals before half-time, with Martinelli among the scorers. However, he was substituted after 63 minutes due to a foot injury. Arteta later revealed that Martinelli had suffered a “little cut on his foot.”
Saka, on the other hand, was replaced at half-time after feeling unwell. Despite concerns over the two players’ fitness, Arteta reassured fans during a press conference on Thursday, stating that he is confident they will be ready for the upcoming game against Brentford. He mentioned that both players had some minor issues but remains positive that they will be part of the team. The final decision will be made after assessing their condition in training.
Saka has been in excellent form this season, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists. He has only missed one league match so far. Arsenal’s victory over Sheffield United also saw the returns of Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey. Jesus had been sidelined for the past five games due to a knee problem, while Partey made his first appearance since August as a substitute.
Another player who will feature in the Brentford clash is goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. David Raya, who is on loan from Arsenal to Brentford, is ineligible to play against his parent club. Ramsdale has spent much of the season as a backup, starting just five matches in all competitions since losing his place in the starting lineup back in August.
Arteta expressed his confidence in Ramsdale, stating that the goalkeeper is fully prepared and eager to play. He praised Ramsdale for his dedication and support in training, highlighting the positive atmosphere created by having two strong goalkeepers in the squad. Arteta also acknowledged the challenge of managing players who do not get regular playing time but emphasized the importance of supporting them and giving them opportunities to contribute to the team’s success.
Arsenal, who have been in excellent scoring form with 21 goals in their last four league games, have the opportunity to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League with a win against Brentford. Meanwhile, title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City will face each other at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
As Arsenal prepares for this crucial match, they can take comfort in the potential return of Saka and Martinelli, two key players who have played pivotal roles in their recent success. With their attacking prowess and the team’s strong form, the Gunners will be hoping to continue their winning streak and maintain their title challenge.
