Mikel Arteta: Happy at Arsenal but Open to Spanish Management Opportunities
Mikel Arteta has recently broken his silence about the links to the PSG job. Reports claimed that the Arsenal manager was a top target for the Ligue 1 giants. However, the French giants are now believed to be close to hiring Luis Enrique as their new boss. It has been claimed that Arteta was approached for the role.
Arteta’s Response
The Spaniard has admitted he is content where he is. He told Marca: “I can only say that I am happy at Arsenal. I feel loved, valued by our owners, Stan and Josh [the two Kroenkes], and I have a lot to do here at this club. I am happy and tremendously grateful to be at Arsenal.”
Arteta’s Future Plans
But, Arteta could see himself managing Real Madrid or Barcelona one day. When he was asked if he would fancy a return to Spain, he replied: “Spain is my country. I’ve been away for many years and at some point it could be an option to return to La Liga and have other experiences. But for now…”
Arteta’s Success at Arsenal
Arteta enjoyed his best campaign as Gunners boss last season – with the club finishing runners-up in the Premier League. That meant they have qualified for the Champions League, following a seven year absence. The club are currently looking to improve on their squad for next term and are set for a £200million spending spree. West Ham captain Declan Rice is their top target. While, the North London giants are also close to deals for Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
Conclusion
Mikel Arteta has made it clear that he is happy at Arsenal and feels valued by the owners. However, he has also expressed his interest in managing Real Madrid or Barcelona one day. Arsenal fans will be hoping that Arteta continues to lead the club to success and brings back the glory days of the past. With a £200million spending spree, the club is looking to strengthen their squad and compete for trophies in the upcoming season.
