Arsenal Players Eager to Challenge Manchester City for Premier League Title
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal Football Club, revealed that his players are determined to achieve more this season and deny Manchester City a fifth consecutive Premier League title. Over the past two seasons, Arsenal has finished second to City in the league, falling just two points behind them in the previous campaign.
After their final match against Everton last season, Arteta organized a gathering in London attended by players, their families, club staff, and owner Josh Kroenke. During the event, Arteta shared that the players expressed their desire to improve and achieve greater success. He mentioned, “All the players were saying to me, ‘we’re going to be better, we’re going to do it, we want more.'” Arteta found this ambition from his players to be a positive sign for the upcoming season.
Arsenal will kick off their season against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Arteta expressed the team’s excitement and enthusiasm for the start of their title bid, stating, “We are really excited. We’ve been missing the competition for many weeks, too long for us. We’re so willing to start, really enthusiastic about it. We had a really challenging pre-season. The team has looked really sharp, really at it and desperate to play.”
To win the Premier League for the first time since 2004, Arsenal may need to improve their points tally for the fifth consecutive season, a feat that no team has achieved before. However, the team has shown improvement year by year, going from 56 points in the 2019-20 season to 89 points in the last campaign.
Alan Shearer, a former England captain and pundit, shared his thoughts on Arsenal’s title prospects. In his BBC Sport column, Shearer pointed out that the team lacks a prolific goalscorer. He stated, “If Arsenal sign a top striker then I would back them to go on and win the league.”
Arteta acknowledges that his team is still a work in progress and believes there is room for improvement. He mentioned, “We’re still very far from perfection. This team still has levels to reach, and they give me the reasons to believe that because I see the way they train and the way they play every day. I believe there is still big room to improve.”
As the new Premier League season begins, Arsenal’s players are eager to challenge Manchester City and establish themselves as genuine title contenders. With their determination, improved points tally, and potential reinforcements in the transfer market, Arsenal aims to dethrone the reigning champions and bring the Premier League trophy back to the Emirates Stadium.
