Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal will be able to challenge for the Premier League title again next season, believing they already have the team to do so without needing to strengthen. The Gunners have had an excellent Premier League season, although they now look likely to miss out on the title, unless Manchester City slip up significantly. Despite this, Wenger is looking at the positives and believes Mikel Arteta has a team capable of winning the Premier League title in the very near future. ‘I think we have in every position of the team, a player who has the quality to deliver the trophy,’ Wenger told Sky Sports. ‘If it’s not this year, it will be maybe next year, but the quality is there, you know, and the team is especially going forward, very young. But I like the way they play, they are mobile, they make intelligent decisions around the box, they play well together and all the ingredients are there.’
Manchester City moved top on Wednesday with a comfortable win over West Ham and are now a point clear of Arsenal with a game in hand. Despite this, Arteta is remaining positive and believes that his team can still maximise the opportunity they have. ‘The thing we can control is to win our matches and to perform as well as possible and that’s what we’re trying to do,’ he said. ‘You cannot do that [drop your heads]. To be in the position we are in after 10 months and against who we are fighting, being there and having a possibility to be at the top is something we have to feel, embrace and enjoy. We have to maximise the opportunity that we have.’
