Arsenal transfer news: Gabriel Jesus to be highest-paid player after £45m deal as Gunners intensify Raphinha efforts, make Lisandro Martinez offer and target Youri Tielemans but Bukayo Saka leaving would be ‘massive failing’

Arsenal are in the midst of rethinking their transfer strategy this summer following a disappointing end to the season.

The Gunners narrowly missed out on a spot in the Champions League after Mikel Arteta’s side were pipped to the post by rivals Tottenham.

The north Londoners may now have a job convincing prospective targets to add to the Emirates rebuild and play in the Europa League.

However, several players have already headed for the exit door this month and that has freed up the budget for new additions.

Arsenal have so far added Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and goalkeeper Matt Turner to their squad ahead of next season but are not done yet.

talkSPORT.com brings you all the latest transfer news and gossip from the red half of North London.

    Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal have struck a £45million agreement to sign Jesus from Manchester City.

The Gunners plan to make the Brazilian forward their highest-paid player in order to bring him to north London, talkSPORT understands.

Jesus has been a top transfer target for Mikel Arteta’s side so far this summer, with the 25-year-old also prioritising a move to the club after making it clear that he intended to leave the Premier League champions.

Should a move be completed, it will bring an end to his six-year stay at the Etihad Stadium.

    Raphinha

Arsenal are reportedly set to intensify their efforts to sign the Leeds winger next week.

The Athletic claim further conversations are believed to be scheduled with the 25-year-old’s representatives as the Gunners look to secure a deal.

The report adds that Arsenal, whose initial bid for Raphinha was rejected last week, are now firm favourites for his signature.

talkSPORT understands Leeds will not stand in his way if he wants to go – so long as their £65million valuation is met.

    Lisandro Martinez

The Gunners have identified Martinez as their top defensive target and have had their opening offer for the player rejected.

However, the 24-year-old became prominent under new United manager Erik ten Hag, and the Dutchman fancies bringing him to Old Trafford.

In order to steal a march on their Premier League rivals, Arsenal have opened fresh talks with the highly-rated Argentine, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Mikel Arteta is said to be an admirer of Martinez’s versatility, with the central defender also able to play as a left-back and defensive midfielder.

    Youri Tielemans

Arsenal are preparing an opening offer of £25m for the Leicester man.

According to reports from The Telegraph, manager Arteta has identified Tielemans as one of his leading targets this summer.

Arsenal’s head of UK scouting James Ellis has watched the midfielder – who has just a year left on his deal – on a consistent basis.

CBS Sports now claim the Gunners are on course to tie up a move to bring the Belgian to north London before the month is out.

The report adds that Tottenham’s proposed move for Yves Bissouma allays fears Arteta will be gazumped by the club’s rivals.

    Buyako Saka

Arsenal have been warned it would be a huge failure if they are forced to sell Saka – who has 12 months left on his current deal.

Man City have been stepping up their interest in the Gunners starlet amid uncertainty over his contract.

But former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Arsenal should not even contemplate allowing him to leave.

He told talkSPORT: “Arsenal should not want to sell players who have come through their youth policy that have been developed under the regime of Arsenal’s mentality, that have come into the first team after all the endeavours of their academies to bring a young player through and then not be able to find some sort of solution to the conundrum of signing a new contract.

“I know there’s an argument that players in his position will be looking for achievements in clubs and will be sort of dictating to clubs about what they have to do rather than what they have to do.

“It will be a disappointing day at Arsenal if they don’t find the keys to the door to unlock the problem they’ve got with this kid signing a new contract.

“This would be a massive failing on the part of Edu, Arteta and anyone else at Arsenal that controls the direction of travel on this boy’s career.”
