Arsenal Eyeing Move for Ajax Defender Jorrel Hato
Arsenal is reportedly planning a move for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. The 17-year-old wonderkid has already showcased his talent by captaining the Dutch giants twice this season. Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, is keen to strengthen his defensive options in the transfer market.
Currently, Arsenal is without summer signing Jurrien Timber, who is expected to be out until at least April due to a knee injury. Additionally, Oleksandr Zinchenko is facing an injury concern, and Takehiro Tomiyasu is on international duty at the Asian Cup.
According to the Telegraph, Hato has been identified as a potential target by Arsenal. The teenager primarily plays in central defense but can also operate as a left-back, making him a versatile option for the Gunners. However, a summer move for Hato is being considered instead of a January transfer.
Hato has been a standout performer for Ajax this season, despite the team’s underwhelming campaign. He has already made 40 first-team appearances before turning 18 and has even worn the captain’s armband on multiple occasions.
In addition to Arsenal’s interest in Hato, they are also strongly linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney. The forward is seen as the preferred target in Arteta’s search for a new striker. However, Brentford and manager Thomas Frank are determined to hold onto Toney this month.
Hato’s talent has also caught the attention of Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman, who handed him his senior international debut in November.
As Arsenal continues to pursue defensive reinforcements and a new striker, fans eagerly await further developments in the transfer market.
