Aaron Ramsdale fears for his Arsenal place
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale fears he’s on the brink of losing his spot as the club’s first choice. David Raya was signed from Brentford earlier this summer, with Mikel Arteta keen to have two top goalkeepers competing against one another.
The Spaniard is yet to make his debut for the club as Arteta has kept faith with Ramsdale. However, Arteta doesn’t want to leave it too long before introducing Raya to the starting XI and Ramsdale’s form at the start of the season has been questionable.
Raya set for extended period in the side
The Daily Mail say Raya is now set for an extended period in the side and Ramsdale fears for his long-term future as first choice. Raya is arguably more comfortable with the ball at his feet than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League.
Arsenal take on Everton at Goodison Park after the international break. The Gunners were beaten by Sean Dyche’s side last February but the Toffees are yet to claim a win this season. The Carabao Cup and Champions League then begins, which could give Arteta the opportunity to play Raya.
Ramsdale’s form
Ramsdale has made some costly errors this season, most notably in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa. He was at fault for both goals, failing to clear a cross for the first and then being beaten at his near post for the second. It was a performance that highlighted why Arteta was so keen to bring in another goalkeeper.
Raya has been impressive in training and is pushing Ramsdale hard for the number one spot. With Arsenal’s form so inconsistent, Arteta could decide to make a change in goal to try and give the team a lift.
Raya’s attributes
Raya is an excellent shot-stopper and is very good with his feet. He is also very vocal and commands his box well. He has all the attributes to be a top goalkeeper and could be a key player for Arsenal this season.
Ramsdale will be hoping he can keep his place in the side but he will have to be at his best if he wants to stay ahead of Raya. The competition between the two goalkeepers could be crucial for Arsenal this season.
Conclusion
Aaron Ramsdale is under pressure to keep his place as Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper. David Raya was signed from Brentford earlier this summer and is pushing Ramsdale hard for the number one spot. Raya is an excellent shot-stopper and is very good with his feet, and he could be a key player for Arsenal this season.
