Arsenal Reportedly Targeting Sporting CP Defender Goncalo Inacio
Arsenal is said to be preparing a move to sign Sporting CP centre-back Goncalo Inacio, as per reports from Portugal.
Established Key Player at Sporting CP
The 22-year-old Inacio has become a vital player at the heart of Sporting’s defense since his breakthrough into the first team in 2020.
Inacio has attracted significant interest from Liverpool and is also on Manchester United’s center-back shortlist.
Arsenal’s Pursuit of Inacio
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Arsenal is intensifying its efforts to sign Inacio ahead of their Premier League rivals.
The report reveals that Arsenal is aware of the €60 million (£51.5m) release clause in Inacio’s contract with Sporting and is willing to pay the fee in the upcoming January transfer window.
Sporting CP is already planning for Inacio’s potential departure and has identified Famalicao center-back Otavio as a possible replacement.
Arsenal has been targeting a left-sided central defender to partner with William Saliba and provide competition for Gabriel Magalhaes.
High Praise for Inacio
In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Olympiacos manager Carlos Carvalhal, a former center-back himself, described Inacio as a “complete defender.”
Carvalhal highlighted Inacio’s technical ability, versatility to play in midfield, and proficiency in passing. He also praised Inacio’s intelligence, aerial prowess, and decision-making on the pitch.
